
In 43 AD the Romans invaded Britain with an occupation army. Julieus Caesar had invaded in 55 and 54 BC but that was an expedition rather than a conquering force. In the year 43 Claudius was emperor and he sent four legions from their port in Boulogne to land in the south of Britain.
