Roman Musselburgh – Inveresk Fort

A whole bunch of stuff to write up. Here is a map showing the fort, aqueduct, harbour, altar to Mithras and possible amphitheatre.

The Society of Antiquities published this paper on an alter found in the graveyard of St Michaels kirk Two inscribed Roman stones and architectural fragments from Scotland [Ingliston milestone, Inveresk altar] (pp 379-90) Maxwell, G S

The discovery of a Mithras alter is the most northerly example of worship for this Persian diety. A 3d model showing sol and the 4 seasons is below.
