A live-action reconstruction imagines the experience of soldiers serving in a Roman frontier watchtower.
What this video covers
Invicta and the re-enactment group Imperium Romanum explore watchtower service on Rome’s Rhine frontier. The documentary places the tower within a wider system of forts, barriers and outposts, with particular emphasis on observation and the movement of information. It offers a useful comparison for Scotland’s Gask Ridge watchtowers. The reconstruction represents a different frontier, however: its buildings, routines and equipment should not be treated as direct evidence for an individual Scottish tower.
