Mumrills at a glance
| Occupation | Antonine period, broadly the AD 140s–160s; exact opening and closing years remain uncertain. |
| Garrison | A Tungrian cavalry regiment and the Second Cohort of Thracians are represented in inscriptions associated with Mumrills. The texts do not establish a combined, simultaneous garrison. |
| Size | About 2.6 hectares (6.4 acres) internally, excluding the western annexe. |
| Troop estimate | A cohort-scale garrison, potentially including mounted troops; the former figure of over 700 should be treated as an estimate, not a muster total. |
- 142 AD Built
- 158 AD abandoned
The fort could have accommodated a substantial auxiliary force, but a figure of over 700 soldiers is an estimate rather than a surviving headcount. The Tungrians served here. (see RIB 2140) as did the Thracians.

Inscriptions
RIB 2140 names Valerius Nigrinus of a Tungrian cavalry regiment; RIB 2142 commemorates Nectovelius, a Brigantian serving in the Second Cohort of Thracians. Findspot, unit title and a soldier’s origin are distinct evidence.
