Roman Weapons

The Romans had an array of sophisticated weapons used in Scotland.

The Scorpion

used twisted bundles of fibres to store energy and shoot bolts.

The Ballista

was another type of torsion-powered artillery. Different machines fired bolts or stones; their range depended on their size, construction and projectile.
